This game was released almost 20 years ago, it certainly shows in the games graphics. They aren't the worst ever seen on the PS1 but they don't hold a candle to games like Gran Turismo 2, let alone games on newer hardware.

Gameplay is enjoyable. You are able to customize your Wanzers in many different ways to adapt to whatever situation you might find your self in. The weapons available to you are somewhat limited compared to other customizable mecha games like Armored Core, but I had no trouble making use of almost all of them. On top of that the actual Wanzer parts themselves are plentiful (though some can only be captured form missions). Enemy AI is a bit on the easy side. Most missions don't offer much challenge if you put a bit of thought into your actions. The battle skill system is fun to play around with, though getting new skills can be a bit of a chore. Especially if you have a high combo CPU equipped (which provides the best overall damage when it activates).

The story is a bit of a mess. Maybe it's just the translation but a lot of it doesn't make much sense. Grammar is awful, and it only gets worse as you play through the game. I'm pretty sure this was one of Squaresoft's first attempts at bringing a game to the North America so it's understandable, but doesn't make it any better.

If you just want to play a fire Emblem Game that's not Fire Emblem, or maybe are looking for a new mecha game to play this one is perfectly adequate. But it's not the best ever by any means. Close
