Hit Netflix Show ‘Narcos’ Becomes A Videogame
- Based around Season 1 of Narcos.
- Play as the DEA or the Medellin Cartel.
- Guns, drugs, and money.
The life, times, and influence of Pablo Escobar became a Netflix sensation a few years ago in the hit series Narcos. Audiences watched the cat and mouse story play out as the DEA tried their hardest to pin down Escobar and other influential figures responsible for the flow of drugs out of Central America and eventually over the border into the USA. Based on real-life events, the show was a hit that had audiences enthralled.
The story would make a great setting for a video game, don’t you think? Curve Digital and Kuju seem to think so, with the newly announced Narcos: Rise of the Cartels. Rise of the Cartels is a turn-based strategy game that will allow players to experience key moments from season one of the show from the perspective of either the DEA or the Medellin cartel, each with their own campaigns.
Revisiting locations, and utilizing characters from the show, it kind of looks like an XCOM title; except instead of aliens, its drug lords versus law enforcement. Different from a traditional turn-based strategy game, however, the opposing side moves as you move your units. I suppose that will keep things fresh, in that it will be a lot harder to plan an effective strategy. Players will have to remain on their toes at all times, to see their chosen side through to the end.
The announcement comes with two trailers, one for the cartel which was seen at the top of the article, and this one below for the DEA. Choose your side, and keep an eye out for Narcos: Rise of the Cartels later this year on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC Platforms later this year.
