New ‘Oddworld: Soulstorm’ Trailer Shows Off Graphics
- Entirely new game within Oddworld series.
- Set between ‘Abe’s Oddysee’ and ‘Abe’s Exodus.’
- Familiar characters get modern makeovers.
- Deeper, darker, and more sinister story.
Oddworld Inhabitants released the following trailer today, demonstrating some of the rendering techniques they’re using in the upcoming Oddworld: Soulstorm. Fans of the series will recognize the propeller-borne sligs, as well as a certain mudokon aboard the FeeCo Train.
Soulstorm will take place directly after the events of the good ending of Abe’s Oddysee, which if you haven’t played, I’m not going to spoil for you. It is not, however, a remake of Abe’s Exodus, but instead a complete game that stands on its own between the first and second titles in the series.
Series creator, Lorne Lanning, said of Soulstorm “There was a deeper, darker, and more sinister story that we never got to tell. Soulstorm gives us the opportunity to flesh out more meat on the bones of an original spine, but re-tell the fable from a very different angle.”
Gameplay details are tentative so far, but will include a crafting system and follower management. Some familiar characters expected to return are Abe, Alf, and Molluck the Glukkon, who as we can see below is none too pleased with the way things went down in Rupture Farms.
All characters and species will be getting a modern makeover so that individuals possess more distinct features and do not resemble clones of one another. You can follow Oddworld Inhabitants on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and their official website. Between those sources, and several others, there is currently alternate reality game (ARG) in place, where fans decode secret messages for more information on the game.
