‘Rising Hell’ Enters Steam Early Access October 17th

  • Ascend from the depths of Hell.
  • Platforming rogue-lite with focus on verticality.
  • Bang your head while you wade through the dead.

Who likes killing demons? You like killing demons, I like killing demons. With the announcement that Doom Eternal is being delayed until next year, we’re going to need something to hold us over, and I may have tripped over a game to keep an eye on. Rising Hell, a 2D platformer with an emphasis on verticality, is about to enter Steam Early Access following a delay last month.

Next Thursday, players will get the chance to fight their way up through hell as they claw and slash through demons. Level layouts and enemy placements are all randomly generated, ensuring that each playthrough is a different experience. The higher you climb, the more you improve your character, with your greatest challenges being various bosses. A few things that really stand out, aside from the fast-paced gameplay, is the art direction and music.

Most games that take us to some sort of underworld are either really dark, really red, or somewhere in between. Rising Hell, while still offering up a lot of red, has an incredibly rich color palette, with varied greens. blues, and a lot of white. They really stick out against the typical hell-styled offerings. It’s a refreshing take on a demonic realm, where the lake of fire is complimented by lightning, mystical projections, and eldritch constructs.

Another standout was the musical track backing the trailer, a combination of heavy metal and an electric organ really sets the tone for the action in the game as the trailer plays out, blending well with the onscreen carnage. The track in particular reminds me a little bit of Powerwolf, and if that’s just a taste of the metal-inspired soundtrack the game is sporting, I think a lot of people will be able to get behind that.

As previously mentioned, the game is about to enter early access with a roadmap to full release leading up through May of next year. Below, you can find the roadmap, as well as a description of the full game from Rising Hell’s Steam page. You can also follow the game via the official Twitter and Facebook pages.

Fight your way through hordes of blood-lusting demons and escape hell as you unlock new characters and talents to create chaos in the randomly generated and ever-changing landscape of hell!

Heavy-metal riffs and pixelated madness will accompany you as you fight your way out from the depths of fiery hell, facing the bugs-ridden Beelzebub’s Lair, and other pits of hell with different creatures, bosses, and living traps lurking around. Chaining combos, jumping maneuvers, and talent building will be your key to help you climb your way out of hell in this adrenaline-pumping vertical platformer.

Rising Hell features:

  • Vertical Rogue-lite: Climb out of the ever-changing procedurally generated hell while the ever-present threat of permadeath fills your veins with adrenaline.

  • Multiple Game Modes: Choose between campaign and challenge modes complete with its own leaderboards.
  • Unlockable Characters: Play and unlock different characters that will give you a variety of different playstyles and strategies.
