‘Samurai Shodown’ is Back

  • Reboot of the classic fighter in Unreal engine.
  • 13 original characters and three newcomers.
  • New combat systems and player ghost cloning.

SNK is back, and they’re down with samurai once again with the newly announced Samurai Shodown. The reboot of the classic fighter is powered by the Unreal 4 engine, and will feature 16 fighters upon launch, three of whom are entirely new to the series.

Popular features from previous titles, such as the Sword Clash and the Rage Gauge will return alongside new techniques. There is also a revolutionary AI system through Dojo Mode that can learn from player patterns and create a ghost clone from the collected data. Players may then face their own ghost clones–or even those of top ranked players–in practice matches.

Samurai Shodown is set to release in June for Windows, PS4, and Xbox One, and sometime later this year for Nintendo Switch. Real-time updates are available through Facebook and Twitter, and 44 minutes of timestamped gameplay can be seen below.

  1. Glad that Charlotte is back. I may get it for the Switch depending on the DLC shenanigans.

  2. I’m hopeful its a good game having loved the orginals on the neo geo AES. I cant be alone in disliking the cell shading effect though?
