TGS 2019: ‘Project Resistance’ Gameplay Revealed
- 4v1 asymmetrical co-op.
- 4 unique survivors with their own abilities.
- Mastermind player is basically a literal DM.
CAPCOM has released a gameplay trailer for Project Resistance, detailing the side project in the Resident Evil franchise in more depth. As previously speculated, Project Resistance is indeed an asymmetrical experience, with one player taking on the role of the Mastermind while the other four players cooperate to overcome a series of challenges. While the role of the survivors is self-explanatory, the Mastermind will be doing everything from setting traps, to cutting the power, to releasing different monsters into different areas to face the survivors. They can even take on the role of a Tyrant, complete in the Mr. X-style outfit.
From a narrative perspective, it’s hard to pinpoint when exactly Project Resistance is supposed to take place, but given the general timeline, it would have to be well before the events of even Resident Evil 0. The trailer reveals the events of Resistance take place on the outskirts of Raccoon City, which would make this unknown location the latest in a line of around a half dozen facilities in and around the city.
Judging by the gameplay locations, it’s in a facility as well equipped as the main NEST facility located beneath central Raccoon City, but that’s only speculation based on a brief gameplay trailer. The biggest question right now is, are the events of Project Resistance going to lend themselves to the overall canon? Time will tell. In the meantime, if you want to try out Project Resistance sooner rather than later, sign-ups have begun for a closed beta that begin just next month on October 4th and run through October 7th.
