‘Wargroove’ Getting New Free DLC

  • The DLC is scheduled to be released soon.
  • New units, characters, and strategies coming.
  • PlayStation 4 version is still in development.

If you follow developer Chucklefish’s Wargroove blog you’ll know that a couple of days ago they teased an upcoming announcement of downloadable content coming to Wargroove. The teaser also mentioned that the game would be getting this new content soon and that players who owned the game already would be able to get it for free. Wargroove released earlier this year for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. A PlayStation 4 version is scheduled to be released sometime this year.

The new content brings with it two new units, the first of which is the Thief. They are the sneakiest of all the units, and even though they lack strength, they have more cunning than others, and sleight of hand. When it comes to gold, they can fill their knapsacks with up to 300 by ransacking enemy buildings. If they can pull of a heist on an enemy stronghold, that number jumps to 1000. The other side of these great abilities is that they themselves cannot attack. To have success with the thieves, you’ll need to strategically protect them and have plenty of reinforcements to guide them to the other side of the map.

The second new units to join Wargroove are the Riflemen. A rifleman has limited ammo, and so his shots have to be strategically used. The last thing you want is to be out in the open, vulnerable, and have to reload. If enemy troops make it in their line of sight, however, they’ll be blown across the map with their expert marksmanship. When the Riflemen units are on their last shot, there is the potential to land critical hits. One of the best ways to counteract them, is to take cover behind trees, where their bullets cannot penetrate.

When the DLC was first teased, Chucklefish did so by introducing Wulfar, an Outlaw Chief. Wulfar leads the largest and oldest clan in Aurania and is notable for being enormously tall, having colossal strength, and wielding a massive stone hammer. The developers also hinted at even more content that would be revealed and discussed at EGX 2019.

Wargroove is a fantastic turn-based tactics video game that feels both modern and like a throwback to an older era of gaming. It is one of the best games I’ve played this year. It’s also been a very successful year for Chucklefish, and allowed them to make this DLC due to the game breaking even in 72 hours. To stay up to date with Wargroove, make sure to follow the developers on Twitter, Facebook, and their official website. You can find a physical copy here on Amazon. If you don’t want to wait, you can also get it digitally on the Nintendo eShop and on PC via Steam.
