Warzone Mode for Modern Warfare Continues to Climb

  • 10 days, 30 million players.
  • Addition of solo lobbies saw another boost in players.
  • How high will this playercount go?

After months of leaks, rumors, and teases Modern Warfare’s long awaited Warzone mode has fired off like a rocket inbound for an unsuspecting squad. Successful opening days would see the threshold first cross 15 million players, and now two weeks later the mode has garnered over 30 million players. Activision and Infinity Ward expressed their gratitude to the players on Friday, as well as reminding potential players that Warzone is a free to play mode for everyone.

Given the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic has many people stuck inside around the world, the surge in gaming that has begun isn’t likely to let up any time soon. Unsurprisingly, free to play games are poised to see the largest player increases as long as this all goes on. Warzone shakes things up from the rest of the Battle Royale genre by putting an emphasis on in-game contracts to increase player scores as well as abandoning the one life rule. If you die, you can attempt to fight your way out of the gulag in a one versus one match against another defeated player with a randomly provided weapon. Combining that with an incredibly large map and a player count of 150 players, it’s quickly making itself a contender against bigger names like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and PUBG.

Later today a new patch is expected to drop for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which includes a new operator and updates for the Warzone mode. The full post can be found at the Activision Blog, but below you’ll find the key takeaways.

A new Operator joins the Coalition – Talon. Talon comes alongside his fierce dog Indiana that’s also ready for combat. Indiana’s skills are on display in Talon’s Finishing Move, one of many items in Talon’s bundle. The bundle also includes two Legendary weapon blueprints and two tier skips! Visit the Store this week and get the Talon bundle to jump into a Multiplayer match or drop into Warzone with this new Operator.

Four weapons – the 725, MK2 Carbine, .50 GS, and EBR-14 will be available in the world of Warzone. Find these armaments across Verdansk in both Common and Uncommon rarities, then take aim against your opponents. Each weapon comes with distinct strengths in its class, consider equipping them in loadouts to see how they match up on the battlefield.
