Xbox E3 2019: Game Announcements

  • Every new title from the Xbox briefing.
  • All trailers and site links.
  • Release dates, platforms, and social media.

Microsoft wrapped up its Xbox briefing for this year’s E3 earlier today, and with it, the largest number of new games announced in a single presentation this year. I have compiled a list of all these upcoming titles, their summaries, and links to further info below. That way, you can quickly access all the information in an alphabetical list, rather than sifting through a two hour presentation to find it.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular strategy games ever with stunning 4K Ultra HD graphics, a new and fully remastered soundtrack, and brand-new content, The Last Khans, with three new campaigns and four new civilizations. Head online to challenge other players with 35 different civilizations in your quest for world domination throughout the ages. Choose your path to greatness with this definitive remaster to one of the most beloved strategy games of all time.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is coming to PC this fall via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass. You can already put it on your wishlist through Steam, or check out the official website to sign up for the beta.

Battletoads

Battletoads is back! Rare and Dlala Studios are bringing the beloved brawler to Xbox with a unique animation style, wild side-scrolling action, and team-focused gameplay that’s perfect for couch co-op. Players take control of Rash, Zitz and Pimple as they smash, stomp and slam their way through hordes of enemies and unleash choreographed chaos to defeat their greatest enemy yet. Fans can look forward to an all-new adventure packed with wild locations, unforgettable characters and surprising gameplay challenges, all with a huge emphasis on co-operative play.

This one is an Xbox One exclusive, though presumably will be compatible with the mysterious Scarlett as well. If you want to keep an eye on this one, your best bet is through developer Rare’s Facebook and Twitter. Dlala Studios has a much smaller online presence, and while there is an official website, its content is scant for now.

Blair Witch

It’s 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods…

The original Blair Witch Project (1999) became something of a cult classic of low budget horror films. Now Bloober Team will be bringing a game adaptation based on the franchise to Xbox One and PC on August 30th. You can wishlist through Steam, as well as pre-order through the official website. You can also keep a closer eye on its development through Facebook and Instagram.

Bleeding Edge

From the studio behind DmC: Devil May Cry and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice comes Bleeding Edge, a fast and frenetic 4v4 team brawler where every fighter comes mechanically enhanced for mayhem! Choose your fighter and join a team of super-charged renegades from the edges of society: burn rubber as bold and beautiful Buttercup with her detachable buzzsaw arms, tear it up as Black Metal rocker Nidhoggr with his electrifying guitar solos, or slash up the streets as New York’s most wanted ninja, Daemon.

In case you were wondering, this is more like Overwatch than a battle royale… a less kiddy, more punk Overwatch. Ninja Theory will be bringing Bleeding Edge to Xbox One and PCs at some point in the future, but the technical alpha starts on June 27th, and you can register for it at the official website.

Borderlands 3

While not technically a new announcement, Borderlands 3 did at least get a new trailer for E3. It will be launching on September 13th for Xbox One and PC, but not through Steam, due to an exclusivity deal with Epic. If you don’t feel like using the Epic store, or buying the Xbox Game Pass, you can still get a hold of Borderlands 3 through Humble Bundle. You can watch for further updates through  FacebookTwitterYouTube, Instagram, and the official website.

CrossfireX

CrossfireX delivers an intense first-person shooter experience where players are immersed in a sprawling global conflict between the world’s two most formidable private military factions: Global Risk employs veterans of powerful armed forces who use advanced technologies to fight for order and security; Black List employs hardened mercenaries trained in guerrilla tactics who fight to destabilize oppressive regimes in the name of freedom. Choose your side and complete objective-based missions across a variety of classic and innovative modes featuring tightly crafted gameplay and cinematic visuals.

Created by South Korean developers Smilegate Entertainment, Crossfire is currently free-to-play on PC. The console version of this first-person-shooter, CrossfireX, will be coming to Xbox One some time next year. You can find out more on Microsoft’s page for it.

Cyberpunk 2077

An open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour, and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset, and playstyle and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.

Keanu Reeves was quite the hit during his reveal as part of the cast of Cyberpunk 2077. We also finally got an official release date: April 16th of next year. CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for Xbox One and PC, and you can already pre-order it through Steam and the Microsoft Store. Plug in for more info through Facebook, Twitch, Twitter, and the official website.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Explore the new areas and adventures as you advance through the story and form powerful bonds with other heroes from the Dragon Ball Z universe.

Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, previously Dragon Ball Project Z, is set to release sometime early next year. Though most Dragon Ball games are fighters, this one promises Action-RPG gameplay. You’ll be most likely to find updates through Bandai Namco’s Twitter, Facebook, and the Xbox Website for now.

Dying Light 2

The last great human settlement exists within an unforgiving, zombie infested world, plunged into the dark ages. During the day bandits, factions, and starving survivors roam the streets scavenging for scraps – or someone to take them from. At night, the infected roam free, evacuating their hideouts to prey on the living. Exceptional agility and brutal combat skills make you a powerful ally and a valuable commodity. You can achieve things no one else can. Enter places no one else dares. With your unique abilities you have the power to be an agent of change within this decaying metropolis.

Techland is bringing Dying Light 2 to Xbox One and PC in Spring of next year. You can wishlist through Steam, and follow along for more updates through Facebook, Twitter, and the official website.

Elden Ring

Developed by FromSoftware, Inc. and Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Elden Ring is a fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki – creator of the influential Dark Souls video game series; and writer George R.R. Martin – author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Danger and discovery lurk around every corner in FromSoftware’s largest game to-date.

Two masters of dark fantasy have come together in this once in a lifetime kind of collaboration. Elden Ring has no release date yet, but it will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Finding more information online is difficult for this one. You can always try the auto translate function on FromSoft’s Facebook and Twitter, but the English Xbox page for it is mostly empty at the moment. You can rest assured that I’ll be bringing you more updates down the line on this one, though.

Minecraft Dungeons

An all-new action-adventure game set in the Minecraft universe coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4! Created in the classic dungeon crawler style, Minecraft Dungeons takes players on an epic quest full of new characters and environments to discover with single player or in co-op multiplayer for up to four players — including couch co-op on Xbox One. Minecraft Dungeons will also be available with Xbox Game Pass the same day of its global release in spring 2020.

Minecraft has already crossed mediums into the realm of film, so the jump across genres to dungeon crawler is no big deal. They’ve got an official site you can check out, as well as a Twitter and Discord.

Ori and the Will of The Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is the highly anticipated sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest, the acclaimed action platformer with more than 50 awards and nominations, and will be released February 11, 2020. Brought to you by Xbox Game Studios and Moon Studios, the game will be available to buy on Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, and Steam and premiere with Xbox Game Pass for PC and Console.

Randomized fields, Interrupt Events, and Multiparty Areas where up to 12 players can play together never make your quest stale and keep it always fresh and surprising. While keeping the easy character control system of the series, more stylish and customizable combat actions are enabled for ideal heroes of players that are given life for the quest through the revolutionized character creation system that brings ultimate designability.

It’ll be free-to-play in the States too, once it gets here next year. Xbox One and PC platforms will have access to cross-play as well. Read more at the official site, and check updates through Facebook.

RPG Time: The Legend of Wright

You’re sure to be dazzled by his hand-drawn creations as you journey into the surprising and magical world of imagination! Forget about homework! Come play RPG Time: The Legend of Wright.

You don’t have to tell me twice to forget about homework. Developers, Deskworks, have scheduled to release RPG Time: The Legend of Wright next year for Xbox, Windows, iOS, and Android. You can follow them on their tiny Twitter, or read more on their official site.

Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves continues to grow and evolve with the on-demand competition of The Arena and story-driven quests of Tall Tales, all included as a part of the free Anniversary Update, the game’s biggest content update to date. You can find more info through their Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and official site.

Spiritfarer

Creators of hand-drawn indie experiences Thunder Lotus return with their unique third production: Spiritfarer, a cozy management game about dying. You play Stella, ferrymaster to the deceased. Build a boat to explore the world, care for your spirit friends, and finally release them into the afterlife. Farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas, as you learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Order 66 has been executed. As a young Padawan on the run, you’ve long kept your abilities hidden to stay alive. Now, you must embrace them. In a brand-new gameplay trailer debuted at the Xbox E3 Briefing, see how you will use the Force to explore your environment, master lightsaber combat, and remain one step ahead of the Empire.

I’m obviously a biased source, but I’d highly recommend checking out my article dedicated to this game if you’re an old school Star Wars fan, or just happen to value strong storytelling.

State of Decay 2: Heartland

State of Decay 2: Heartland features a return to Trumbull Valley in a new story-based adventure. Once the iconic site of the original State of Decay game, the towns of Spencer’s Mill and Marshall are now overrun with an advanced form of blood plague: a more aggressive and far deadlier version than exists anywhere else. Though it may be familiar territory to those who homesteaded here years ago, Trumbull Valley is packed with new dangers — and unspeakable horrors. Heartland launches for all State of Decay 2 players on June 9, 2019, for $9.99 on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, and is included with Xbox Game Pass.

Relevant social media and website links are as follows: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Discord, official site.

Featuring a new cast of characters, intense action based combat and classic Tales of gameplay mechanics, experience a tale of duality, justice and the fight for freedom.

This upcoming RPG by Bandai Namco will arrive next year for Xbox One and PC. Dedicated social media seems lacking, but you can still follow Bandai Namco’s Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, and Instagram for updates, as well as the Tales of Arise section of its parent site.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter a host of factions all vying for power, who you decide to become will determine the fate of everyone in Halcyon. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Now that Obsidian has been acquired by Microsoft, The Outer Worlds will eventually be part of Microsoft Game Pass. It will be coming to all platforms, but not Steam, on October 25th. As always, you can find out more through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Twitch, and the official site.

Players will face challenging tactical combat, explore an interactive world, and engage in a deep story full of brutal ethical decisions. Seems like Xbox is keeping all the good shit for Scarlett…

Lovely bunch of games coming out this year. Not all of them are AAA garbage, which is a pleasant surprise…

But hey, can we start linking GOG.com when there are releases on it? Like, specifically, when it is a CDPR game? Cyberpunk 2077 is also available for preorder on that site https://www.gog.com/game/cyberpunk_2077

Kinda odd how people keep mentioning this and every article keeps neglecting it.

  3. PSO2 is the biggest news IMHO. I can’t wait to play this on Windows 10. Probably in the Windows App Store but whateves! It’s PSO2 finally.

  4. Not that much for me from that conference. Ori was the highlight for me.

I’m not interested in Cyberpunk, but the Keanu reveal was something else. Celebrity appearances usually don’t work at E3, but this was surprisingly good.

  5. No Sony so nothing much for me but that Keanu Reeves reveal was brilliant.
